Special advantages of Chinese medicine in the treatment of allergic rhinitis

Allergic Rhinitis AR is a common disease in otorhinolaryngology, and its incidence is increasing year by year worldwide, with an estimated number of more than 50 million patients in China. In recent years, research on its etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and various aspects of treatment have received unprecedented attention, but a recent epidemiological survey conducted by Han Demin et al. in 11 cities in China showed that about 1/3 of AR patients were not satisfied with the treatment effect. Modern medicine has conducted a lot of in-depth research on it, and proposed a series of treatment methods, developed a large number of therapeutic drugs, and achieved certain clinical results, and made a considerable contribution to the prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis, but it still has many shortcomings, and cannot be accepted by some patients.

Allergic rhinitis belongs to the scope of congested nose in Chinese medicine, and its etiology and pathogenesis are mainly: deficiency of lung qi, invasion of wind, lack of spleen qi, lack of clear yang, lack of kidney yang, invasion of external evil, heat in the lung meridian and nasal congestion. Treatment is based on tonifying the lung and consolidating the surface, dispersing the wind and dispersing the evil, strengthening the spleen and benefiting the qi, dispersing the evil and resolving dampness, warming the kidney yang, consolidating the kidney and nourishing the qi, clearing and promoting the lung qi and clearing the nasal passages.

According to the clinical observation of our department for many years, we found that the mucous membrane of allergic rhinitis, especially perennial allergic rhinitis, is gray-blue, which shows the evidence of blood stasis blocking the ligament. On the basis of this theory, Director Liu Gang proposed that “Qi deficiency, blood stasis and stagnation of nasal orifices” is the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis, and applied nasal septum correction with Chinese herbal medicine to treat allergic rhinitis, which has achieved good clinical efficacy and published 20 related papers in domestic core journals.
