Can eating disorders heal on their own?

Eating disorders are almost never self-healing.
Although there is a lack of clear statistics on the relapse rate of eating disorders, it is also more common in the clinic for patients to delay healing or even relapse after their symptoms have disappeared. On the one hand, patients already have body image disorders and have difficulty in accurately judging their body size, and on the other hand, society and culture have more stringent standards for body size, and patients are prone to go into the misconception of deformity weight loss.
In addition, eating disorders, especially bulimia nervosa, often have a long course, can be associated with substance abuse, personality disorders, and can present with impulsive qualities and low self-esteem, so the rate of self-healing is low.
