Some patients with mild symptoms only show low fever and mild malaise, and may have no pneumonia symptoms. Severely ill patients tend to develop respiratory distress or hypoxemia a week after the onset of the disease, and the severe cases progress rapidly to acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock, uncorrectable metabolic acidosis and bleeding and coagulation dysfunction, which can lead to death in severe cases, mostly in the elderly and those with chronic underlying diseases.
