What does pharmacological treatment of osteoporosis include?

Once you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, there is no need to worry too much, the earlier you treat it, the better the results. You should consult your doctor to suggest the right medication for you. The main therapeutic drugs include: Bisphosphonates: The treatment is achieved by inhibiting the bone resorption activity of osteoclasts. Mild gastrointestinal reactions may occur in a few patients after oral administration of bisphosphonates, including mild epigastric pain, acid reflux and other symptoms of esophagitis and gastric ulcer. Therefore, in addition to taking it strictly according to the instructions, it should be used with caution in patients with active gastric and duodenal ulcers and reflux esophagitis. Calcitonin: It can inhibit the biological activity of osteoclasts and reduce the number of osteoclasts, thus preventing bone loss and increasing bone mass. Another outstanding feature is that it can significantly relieve bone pain, which is effective for chronic pain caused by osteoporotic fractures or bone deformation and bone pain caused by bone tumors and other diseases, and is therefore more suitable for osteoporosis patients with painful symptoms. Commonly used preparations: such as salmon calcitonin (mikacalcitol), etc. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT): Hormone replacement therapy provides a variety of benefits to menopausal women, stopping bone loss and reducing the risk of osteoporotic vertebral and non-vertebral fractures, and is an effective measure to prevent and treat postmenopausal osteoporosis. However, estrogen is not suitable for all women. the side effects and increased risk of adverse effects-malignancy of HRT also contribute to the reluctance of many women to undergo treatment.
