Diagnosis and treatment of Asperger’s syndrome

In 1944, Asperger reported a group of people whose development in the first year of life was no different from that of normal children, often talking first and then walking, gradually developing persistent social and emotional abnormalities around the age of two, extremely self-centered, lacking empathy and interpersonal interactions, not looking at people very well, speaking like memorizing, speaking awkwardly and stereotypically, lacking a sense of humor, often having a special preference for a phenomenon or thing and They often have a special preference for a phenomenon or thing and concentrate on it, such as memorizing bus schedules, called Asperger’s syndrome. Many famous people we know, such as Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, etc., are considered by many scholars to have Asperger’s syndrome, so they are often considered “geniuses”. Some scholars consider Asperger’s syndrome to be a mild form of autism, while others consider it to be a non-verbal learning disability, but most scholars consider it to be a separate disorder from autism. The chance of developing Asperger’s syndrome is 0.7 percent. The cause of Asperger’s syndrome is not known, but research suggests that genetics, biochemical contamination, filtration toxicity, and some problems during pregnancy and childbirth may be the cause. The manifestations of Asperger’s syndrome: i. Cognitive aspects: they will be excessively interested in certain things, some of the more bizarre and unconventional ideas. Classing difficulties: It is difficult to apply the knowledge and skills learned to daily life. They can memorize some rules of games or manners, but they cannot use them correctly. For example, when a teacher says “walk on the right side”, he or she will take it very seriously, even when getting up to go to the bathroom at night, he or she has to walk on the right side. “childishness”. Theory of mind: Although fluent in language, they are often unable to explain some of their behavior. They do not understand the inner feelings of others and are unable to master the skills of controlling their emotions. They do not understand the norms of social etiquette, for example, they may say directly to an adult they meet for the first time: “Hello, you are fat! How many kilos are you?” . Difficulty in distinguishing between the real and virtual worlds, such as spending countless hours on improving the spacecraft warfare facilities in science fiction movies. Special language communication style: will repeat the same sentence many times, too mechanical and detailed description of some things that may not be interesting to ordinary people. Prefer to use long sentences when speaking, unable to hold the appropriate distance to talk with people. Lack of eye contact or expressionlessness in conversation, not being able to read people’s speech and not understanding their body language. VI. Social skills: Inability to establish and maintain long-lasting friendships and appropriate interpersonal relationships, difficulty in mastering social skills, and awkwardness in social situations and conversations with others. At present, special education combined with behavioral training is the best way to intervene in Asperger’s syndrome. Early detection and early intervention is the key to treat Asperger’s syndrome. There are no specific medications available, but some medications are effective in treating the co-morbidities of Asperger’s syndrome. Research has shown that regardless of the severity of their symptoms, standardized training is necessary. Effective training can help these children return to normalcy, develop intelligence, and become useful, even “gifted”.
