The most common cause of nail delamination in babies is a dry nail plate containing little water. In addition, the wear and tear on the nail plate caused by a small child’s love of movement and play can also easily lead to delamination of the nail plate. However, if a child is not eating normally, is picky with food, has diarrhoea or even shows abnormal signs such as growth retardation, malnutrition or systemic disease should be considered and a hospital visit is needed.
