There are many reasons for nail delamination and yellowing. It can be due to systemic diseases such as scleroderma, diabetes and Raynaud’s disease; it can also be due to skin conditions such as lichen planus, psoriasis, baldness and eczema; or it can be due to local micro-injuries such as excessive nail care. The presence of layered and yellowing nail plates should be promptly seen. A dermatologist can make a clear diagnosis based on the distribution characteristics of the diseased nail, clinical presentation and relevant tests.
