Tricuspid regurgitation is the incomplete closure of the tricuspid valve resulting in regurgitation of blood flow from the right ventricle to the right atrium during cardiac contraction. Lesions of the tricuspid valve itself and abnormalities in the spatial position of the various components of the valve, including the leaflets, annulus, papillary muscles and tendon cords, throughout its motion are the underlying causes of tricuspid regurgitation.
