Accidental injuries: easily overlooked cranio-cerebral injuries in children

The last day of the first month is coming to an end, and the New Year is completely over. However, the number of children with cranio-cerebral injuries seen during the Chinese New Year has forced us to remind all parents to pay attention to childhood accidental injuries, especially those caused by accidents. During this period, we treated children with craniosynostosis covering scalp lacerations or hematomas, skull depression fractures, intracranial hematomas, brain contusions, etc. The children showed crying, pain, local swelling, vomiting, convulsions and even coma, etc. The main reasons for the occurrence are falls and car accidents, such as: some parents (guardians) are busy with work and neglect the care of children, unreasonable layout of the living room or placement of objects, low awareness of traffic safety, especially the safety of electric car driving, and so on. When an accident occurs, if the child is unconscious, parents should transfer the child to a flat area or a hard board and send the child to the hospital smoothly and quickly, do not pick up the child or lift the side of the body; when it comes to trauma bleeding, because the scalp is rich in blood supply, generally more bleeding, it is best to cover the wound with a clean cloth (better with sterilized dressing), apply appropriate pressure by hand to help stop the bleeding, and send the child to the hospital as soon as possible. If the child refuses to eat and vomits at home after the injury, pay close attention to it and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Every child is a treasure in the hands of parents, but children sometimes encounter unexpected injuries during their growth. For the possible dangers faced by children, if parents can do a good job of protective measures, they may be able to avoid accidents; if the accidental injury to the head, be sure to ask a professional doctor for evaluation.
