Technically speaking, acne and pimples are not a disease; acne encompasses pimples. In medical terms, there is no such term as acne. Acne vulgaris is usually clinical adolescent acne, which refers to the overproduction of sebaceous glands, hyperkeratosis of the hair follicle opening and Propionibacterium acnes infection associated with overproduction of androgens during adolescence (generally 10-25 years of age), and occurs on the face, chest and back. Acne is a common dermatologic disorder, and its onset is not necessarily due to hyperandrogenism. It can occur at any age, including newborns and adults over the age of 25. Acne is a chronic disease and it is critical to maintain treatment for a long time. Patients should use reasonable medication under the guidance of a doctor to avoid the formation of discoloration and scarring.
