Nasal bleeding caused by leukemia is mostly heavy and can also be triggered in other parts of the body, such as subcutaneous bruising.
When the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa rupture it is easy to cause bleeding, mostly due to rhinitis, often with frequent nose rubbing or nose picking. Most of them are triggered by frequent bleeding tendencies during the season of rhinitis attacks. Examination for rhinitis reveals a slight localized mucosal erosion, and for hematologic disorders examination of the nasal cavity reveals a diffuse oozing of blood.
Blooding from nasal mucosal erosion can be treated with localized erythromycin ophthalmic ointment in the nasal cavity for anti-inflammatory repair of the mucosa; if there is frequent itching of the nose or nasal congestion, it may be a rhinitis attack that needs to be treated, mostly with hormonal nasal sprays such as fluticasone nasal spray to improve the nasal symptoms.
It is usually important to correct nose picking or nose rubbing. For nosebleeds accompanied by multiple bruises and petechiae on the skin of the body, routine blood tests and coagulation tests are needed to rule out any hematologic disorders.
