At its earliest stage, liver cancer does not have special symptoms and is not easily detected by patients themselves. Therefore, for the purpose of early diagnosis and treatment, clinical staffs usually recommend high-risk groups of liver cancer to receive regular medical checkups. Most importantly, high-risk patients should raise their awareness of self-care and actively participate in regular medical checkups, which can help in early diagnosis of liver cancer. The most commonly used clinical screening tests for early liver cancer include alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) serum test and liver ultrasound, in addition to routine liver function serum biochemistry tests. Due to the implementation of routine liver cancer screening, we can indeed detect some cases of liver cancer that are “self-conscious” and the effectiveness of treatment for early-stage small liver cancer is indeed significantly better than that of advanced liver cancer.
