What does diffuse thyroid lesion mean?

On ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland, a diffuse thyroid lesion is seen if its internal echogenicity is uneven and diffuse. It does not refer to a single disease, but may represent a variety of thyroid disorders, such as nodular goiter, or thyroid cancer. The manifestation in thyroid function may be hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.

For diffuse thyroid lesions, treatment should be causal and symptomatic, and multiple treatments are available. Drugs may have an effect on liver and kidney function, and may also reduce the number of white blood cells, affecting metabolic and immune function; iodine 131 therapy is more effective, but because of its radioactive nature, it may cause excessive destruction of thyroid follicles, resulting in hypothyroidism; and for larger nodules (usually those of 3 cm or more) and thyroid cancer, surgical removal is usually performed.

After a diffuse lesion in the thyroid, it is important to pay attention to the diet. It is important to consume less stimulating foods and ensure balanced nutrition. It is important to ensure adequate rest so as not to cause endocrine disruption and aggravate the condition. For cruciferous vegetables, it is important to consume them appropriately, taking care not to consume too much of them, and also to avoid consuming them together with fruits, so as not to inhibit the release of thyroxine and promote the enlargement of the thyroid gland.
