So far, the concepts about autism are only descriptive concepts with categorical definitions. There is more consensus that children with autism have four main symptoms or characteristics: First, they tend to occur before the age of three. The second is the presence of significant verbal communication deficits. The third is the presence of stubborn, stereotypical behavior. The fourth is a marked indifference to the surrounding environment and a lack of social interaction. In Taiwan, the textbook “General Theory of Special Education” defines autistic children as “those who show severe problems in communication, social interaction, behavior and interest expression due to abnormal neuropsychological functions, resulting in significant difficulties in learning and adapting to life. Recent studies have somewhat changed the initial view of autism as equivalent to early childhood psychosis or childhood schizophrenia. The main clinical manifestations of autistic children have been summarized as follows: 1. social difficulties, the patient appears to be particularly isolated and unwilling and unable to interact with others. 2. 2. No attachment to parents before, more indifferent to bystanders, but no squeamishness to strangers either. 3. There is no eye-to-eye gaze, and they do not use their eyes to express their feelings and needs. 4.Language development is retarded, especially showing severe language communication difficulties, mostly presenting stereotypical and repetitive language. 5. Mostly exhibit ritualistic and compulsive behaviors, lack of change, and stubborn behavior.
