Imiquimod: Imiquimod is an imidazoquinolamine compound, which is a small molecule immunomodulator and has been widely used in the treatment of genital warts, basal cell carcinoma of the skin, squamous carcinoma in situ, actinic keratosis, malignant freckle-like nevus, etc. In 2002, Martinez et al. first tried to apply imiquimod in the treatment of infantile hemangioma and achieved more satisfactory results. The mechanism of action may be through the production of large amounts of cytokines, such as interferon, interleukin, and tumor necrosis factor, thereby enhancing the local immune response. Recent studies have also suggested that interleukin-12 has tumor suppressive as well as anti-angiogenic effects and may play an important role in the regression of imiquimod-induced hemangiomas. In recent years, clinical studies have confirmed that topical application of 5% imiquimod cream can be used to treat hemangiomas in infants and young children by applying it to the affected area once every other day, and the hemangioma section disappears completely after 3-5 months of treatment. Its main advantages are convenient, controllable and low local irritation, especially for the treatment of small and medium-sized hemangiomas in hidden parts of the body.
