How to treat vitreous opacities

Vitreous turbidity, classified as physiological and pathological. Treatment varies for each condition. In most cases, what people call vitreous opacities are physiological. In clinical practice, it often manifests as mosquito flying, which is a common ophthalmic disease. The main symptom is the appearance of floating dark shadows in front of the eyes, which can have a variety of shapes, mosquito-like, line, coil, water ripples, etc., to name a few. In general, this vitreous turbidity does not require treatment. With age, the vitreous will gradually become cloudy. If the patient’s clinical symptoms are mild and do not affect daily life and work, a regular observation method can be adopted. The vitreous clouding can be helped by taking iodine-rich foods, vitamin C, vitamin E, etc. If the symptoms of vitreous clouding are unacceptable and have affected daily life and work, laser irradiation can be used to destroy the floaters and help relieve the symptoms. Pathological vitreous clouding, including vitreous hemosiderosis and inflammatory vitreous clouding due to chorioretinitis. At this time, treatment of the primary disease, such as vitrectomy to remove the blood accumulation, or medications to treat the inflammation, including corticosteroids, antibiotics, etc., should be performed promptly to help relieve and control the symptoms. Patients should take better care of their body, ensure sufficient rest time, avoid overworking the eyes, and eat more protein-rich and vitamin-rich foods. In conclusion, patients should choose a reasonable treatment according to their condition to relieve the clinical manifestations of vitreous turbidity and help restore the normal physiological function of the vitreous.
