How to treat skin pressure injuries from wearing a mask

If local subcutaneous bleeding occurs during the wearing of the mask, topical ointments that improve skin circulation can be used. If there is obvious redness, swelling or ulceration, topical antibiotic ointment or band-aid can be used under the guidance of a doctor. If the patient’s skin becomes soft and wrinkled, mainly caused by local moisture, an emollient cream containing zinc oxide or petroleum jelly can be used before wearing a mask. If the damage worsens, or if severe infection or allergy occurs, be sure to seek prompt medical attention from a hospital dermatologist.
