Almost all (99.7%) cervical cancers are caused by HPV infection, and the primary prevention measure that can effectively prevent cervical cancer is the HPV vaccine (cervical cancer vaccine). But how much do you know about “HPV vaccine”? 1. What is the classification of HPV vaccine? There are two types of HPV vaccines on the market, one is the quadrivalent vaccine, which targets HPV-6, HPV-11, HPV-16 and HPV-18, and the other is the bivalent vaccine, which only targets HPV-16 and HPV-18. HPV-16 and HPV-18 are high-risk HPV types that cause cervical cancer, while HPV-6 and -11 are not carcinogenic, but they also cause genital warts and recurrent respiratory infections. On December 10, 2014, the FDA announced on its website that the nine-valent vaccine developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme had been approved, adding five virus subtypes: 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58, which are not yet available for clinical use. 2.What is the recommended vaccination population and age? The age for HPV vaccination is 9 to 26 years old (for both men and women), but the age limit is not absolute, it depends on whether you have sex or not. The current guidelines support bivalent or quadrivalent vaccination for women and quadrivalent vaccination for men. 3.Can’t I get the HPV vaccine after I have had sex? No. Basically, you can get vaccinated at any time, but once you start having sex, the chance of getting HPV infection increases greatly, and from the pharmacoeconomic point of view, it is not cost-effective. Therefore, regardless of whether or not you have had sex or have been infected with HPV, vaccination is a possibility of prevention. 4. Contraindications to vaccination? Those who are pregnant cannot be vaccinated, those who have fever cannot be vaccinated, and those who are allergic to yeast cannot be vaccinated. However, the vaccine can be administered during menstruation. 5.Where can I get HPV vaccination? Since the HPV vaccine has not yet been approved by our drug review center, the vaccine is not yet available in mainland China, but only in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan or abroad. Currently, there are quadrivalent and bivalent vaccines available on the market. The HPV vaccine is usually administered in 3 injections, taking a total of about 6 months to complete, i.e. the first injection at the beginning, the second injection in the second month, and the last injection after 6 months. So if you go to Hong Kong to get vaccinated, you have to make at least 3 round trips and the cost of the vaccine itself is about 2,000~3,000 RMB.
