Sweating is a physiological phenomenon of the human body. Normal sweating can regulate the balance of yin and yang and expel waste from the body. When the outside temperature is too high, strenuous exercise or eating some stimulating food will make the qi dispersed, which should be accompanied by sweating; when the weather is cold, the qi retracted, should not sweat around the body. When the body’s yin and yang imbalance, the internal organs out of balance will be paradoxical sweating. The human body surface defense against external invasion relies on positive Qi, which can be further divided into Ying Qi and Wei Qi, with Wei being the main external and Ying being the main internal. If the two do not work together, Chinese medicine calls it “Ying and Wei disharmony”, the body will often sweat on its own. If the Wei Qi is too weak, the Ying Qi inside will leak out and sweat; if the Wei Qi is too strong, because the body surface is attacked by external evil, the Wei Qi is attracted to fight the enemy and can no longer protect the Ying Yin. In both cases, Gui Zhi Tang is chosen to regulate the situation in the Treatise on Typhoid Fever. If the body is deficient in yin or has actual heat, the person will also sweat abnormally. Yin deficiency is often manifested as night sweating, i.e. sweating after falling asleep, which requires nourishing Yin and astringency, and can be treated with Mai Wei Di Huang Wan or Dang Gui Liu Huang Tang. If there is no dampness, the body is filled with an invisible heat, often accompanied by fever and thirst, and sweating all over the body, treatment can be used to clear the heat with Bai Hu Tang or Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Tang, etc.; if there is dampness and heat in the body, due to the sticky nature of dampness, resulting in poor Qi flow in the body, often manifested as sweating in the upper body or above the neck, and accompanied by sticky mouth, yellow and thick tongue coating, abdominal distention and fullness, and unpleasant bowel movements, etc. Symptoms can be treated with Gentian-Diarrhea Liver Soup. Sweating is the fluid of the heart. If excessive thinking damages the heart and spleen, sweating can also be caused, often accompanied by panic and shortness of breath, insomnia and sleeplessness, and a dull complexion. People who have been ill for a long time often have bruised blood, which can also turn into heat and cause sweating, characterized by fever in the afternoon or at night and localized sweating, accompanied by bruised spots or bruises under the tongue, etc. Blood Mansions and Stasis Tang is often used to treat this condition. If the patient has cold sweat, pale face, cold extremities, and weak pulse, this is a sign of a loss of vital energy, and the patient needs to be rescued in hospital. There are also people who do not sweat when they should sweat, either because Yang Qi is weak without the power of transpiration, or because there is evil on the body surface so that the pores can not be opened, or because the Yin and Jin are depleted without the raw material of sweat, all need to be adjusted. It is important to note that with the popularity of air conditioning, many people do not sweat in the summer, so that the body’s qi can not open properly, will bring great potential health problems. As you can see, the first rule of health is to follow the laws of nature.
