What is the cause of the lump under the laryngeal node?

A lump found below the laryngeal node is more commonly caused by a disorder of the thyroid gland, which may be a nodule or a tumor of the thyroid gland, regardless of the source. It is important to check the details of the test to be sure, but whatever the source, be sure not to press hard.

First of all, a laryngoscopy should be done at a hospital otolaryngology department to rule out laryngeal cancer and other diseases.

Secondly, an ultrasound of the thyroid gland and ultrasound of the cervical lymph nodes should be done to find out if the lump in the laryngeal node is caused by the thyroid gland or by an enlarged lymph node in the neck.

If the ultrasound suggests that the mass is from a lymph node, further examination of the nasopharynx for a mass, or the lung, breast, or stomach for a mass, as tumors in these areas can metastasize through the lymph nodes and cause enlargement of the cervical lymph nodes, requiring fine needle aspiration if necessary to clarify the nature of the mass.

If the ultrasound suggests that the mass is from the thyroid gland, it may be a thyroid nodule or a tumor of the thyroid gland that requires further examination to clarify its nature. The most common method is ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology, the results of which are usually available in about 3 days. The next step in treatment will be decided based on the results.
