The onset of the disease is sudden and is commonly associated with peripheral facial nerve palsy in Western medicine. Treatment: (1) Acute phase (within 1 week of onset): to dispel wind and dispel cold and clear heat. Main acupuncture point: complete bone, trigeminal needle for bloodletting, once every other day. Supporting points: wind-cold plus Fengchi, wind-heat plus Quchi, milli-needle acupuncture with diarrhea, once a day, retaining the needle for 30 minutes. (2) During the recovery period (2-4 weeks after onset), the main purpose is to invigorate blood circulation and moisten tendons and flesh, with milli-needle acupuncture using flat tonic and flat diarrhea, once daily, 30 minutes. Matching points: inability to frown plus Zanzhu on the affected side, flat nasolabial groove plus Yingxiang on the affected side, deviated Renzhong ditch plus Shuigou, loss of tongue numbness and taste sensation plus Lianquan. (3) In the post-emergence period (more than 5 weeks after the onset of the disease), the main point is to tonify the Qi and nourish the Blood, and the skin needles should be tapped to slightly redden the local skin, once every other day.
