What is artificial insemination? Artificial insemination is a procedure in which a doctor injects semen into the uterine cavity after optimizing it to assist in conception, instead of the process of intercourse, in order to achieve a natural union of sperm and egg. According to the source of semen, there are two types of artificial insemination by husband (AIH) and artificial insemination by donor (AID). Who is suitable for AIH? AIH refers to artificial insemination using the husband’s semen. It is mainly suitable for mild male oligospermia, abnormal semen liquefaction, sexual dysfunction, genital malformation; female cervical erosion; sexual disorder due to genital tract malformation and psychological factors; immune infertility; and unexplained infertility. What are the requirements for artificial insemination? The following conditions must be met: the woman’s uterus is normal in size and shape, at least one of the fallopian tubes is completely normal (confirmed by tubal iodography or hysteroscopy), the woman has spontaneous ovulation or can ovulate after ovulation treatment, and the man must have a certain number of forward-moving sperm. How is IUI performed? The approximate process of artificial insemination by husband is: first, the wife monitors ovulation by vaginal ultrasound; when the follicle is mature, the husband masturbates to retrieve sperm and the semen is optimized in the laboratory to screen out high quality sperm, which is then injected into the wife’s uterine cavity with a hose; the following day, the follicle is observed by ultrasound to see if it is expelled, and if it is, the pregnancy is measured after half a month. Who is suitable for artificial insemination by sperm donation? Donor insemination is an artificial insemination using semen provided by a sperm bank. It is suitable for: irreversible azoospermia, severe oligospermia, weak spermia and teratospermia; failed tubal reversal; ejaculation disorders; serious genetic disorders in the male partner and/or family that are unsuitable for fertility; maternal and child blood type incompatibility that does not result in a viable newborn.
