What is colposcopy?

First of all, it is important to emphasize the concept that colposcopy may be called a “vaginal” scope, but it is a “cervical” examination! Due to irregularities in cervical cancer screening, many patients and even some hospitals use colposcopy as a primary screening test for cervical cancer, however, this is not appropriate. The role of colposcopy is to further diagnose those with abnormal primary screening, determine the extent and degree of lesions, guide biopsy, and direct clinical management. Today, we provide a detailed overview of colposcopy. What is colposcopy? Colposcopy is a special type of magnifying glass in which light is directed through several layers of epithelial cells into the stroma and reflected back to form an image. The nature of the cervical epithelium determines the image, and a professional colposcopist can play an important role in recognizing cervical lesions by observing the color, configuration, borders, and vascularity of the cervix in saline and acetic acid. What kind of people need colposcopy? Abnormal cervical smear cytology 16, 18 high risk HPV positive Clinical abnormalities (blood on palpation, fluid drainage, etc.) or abnormal cervical visualization or palpation Follow-up, follow up on the effectiveness of treatment Vulvar, vaginal disorders, specific populations, etc.
