Primary nephrotic syndrome (renal syndrome) is a multifaceted and common disease in nephrology. The frequency and recurrence of this disease pose a great threat to the physical and mental health of the majority of kidney patients. In the treatment of renal syndrome, glucocorticoid (prednisone) has always been the drug of choice, but the serious side effects caused by the application of hormone is one of the most headache for doctors and patients, especially when the application of hormone has to be reduced or discontinued due to more serious complications and comorbidities, which will have a great negative impact on the control and treatment of the disease. In response to the above problem, for many years, I have been preparing my own Chinese medicine formula: Cistanches, Licorice, Bacopa monniera, Epimedium, Hippocampus and other common Chinese medicines into a soup (Kidney Promotion Soup) for oral administration to stimulate the secretion of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex in the body for the treatment of recurrent and refractory nephrotic syndrome, and received satisfactory results. If hormones are used in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome with serious side effects (femoral head necrosis, steroid diabetes, serious infection or comorbid diabetes, hepatitis B-related nephritis, tuberculosis, tumor, etc.), cortisol hormone concentrations in the body are reviewed regularly and the results are satisfactory. All patients can be treated with half or small doses of hormones and Kidney Promotion Soup, while those with milder conditions can be treated with Kidney Promotion Soup alone with other drugs. After five years of intensive research and clinical case observation, Kidney Promotion Soup can simultaneously reduce the amount of hormones in the treatment of relapsed renal syndrome, and in some cases can completely replace hormones. During the course of treatment, Kidney Promotion Soup can completely replace or supplement half amount (small dose) of hormones and other drugs. In patients who have reduced or discontinued hormones with the addition of Kidney Pro, the level of cortisol secretion in the body should be monitored periodically in stages. Kidney promotion soup can make the patient’s exogenous hormone suppression of the adrenal cortex release, thus gradually increasing the secretion of adrenal cortical glucocorticoids in the body. The application of traditional Chinese medicine (Kidney Promotion Soup) can, firstly, reduce the occurrence and development of side effects brought about by large doses of hormones, and, secondly, gradually achieve a relative balance in the body’s internal environment, which has further significance in curing nephrotic syndrome and preventing recurrence and frequency of renal syndrome. My aim is to “promote kidney in Chinese medicine, monitor in Western medicine” to maximize the relief and termination of kidney disease, and also to provide a new treatment method to prevent the recurrence of kidney disease when the hormone is reduced.
