High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are an important factor in abnormal sperm structure and function, and the use of antioxidant drugs is receiving increasing attention in the treatment of male infertility. Vitamin E, also known as tocopherol, is one of the most important antioxidants. There are many patients with male infertility in China, and there are large differences in the level of treatment and medication habits of male physicians. In order to guide the rational application of vitamin E in the field of male infertility treatment, the Chinese Medical Association Men’s Branch organized some clinical experts to prepare this consensus for the reference of clinicians. Vitamin E includes both natural vitamin E and synthetic vitamin E. Natural vitamin E is refined from natural plant extracts, while synthetic vitamin E is made from chemical raw materials such as trimethylhydroquinone. The biological activity of natural vitamin E is three to eight times higher than that of synthetic vitamin E, and its antioxidant properties are tens of times higher than those of synthetic vitamin E. In the treatment of male infertility, the recommended dose of pharmaceutical-grade (>90%) natural vitamin E is 100 mg per dose, two to three times per day, for about three to six months, with the dose and duration of treatment adjusted according to the patient’s symptoms and semen quality. The dose and duration of treatment can be adjusted according to the patient’s symptoms and semen quality. At present, natural vitamin E is commonly used in the market, such as Lai Yi and natural vitamin E soft capsule.
