Sperm survival time in vitro

The duration of sperm survival in vitro depends mainly on the quality of the sperm, the temperature and humidity of the environment in which the sperm are present. If sperm are present at room temperature and in a dry environment, the survival time is usually 2-3 hours. If the sperm is placed in a 37°C water bath, the survival time is about 4 hours, and can even reach 6-8 hours or more. However, if the sperm is in a dry, hot environment, the survival time of the sperm is usually not more than half an hour. However, if the temperature is lowered, the sperm survival time can be extended accordingly, such as storing sperm frozen with liquid nitrogen, the sperm can even be preserved for a long time. In conclusion, using the survival rate of sperm in different environments outside the body can be used to solve problems such as infertility caused by low sperm viability in men, for example, sperm freezing technology can be applied to IVF, etc.
