How are suprasellar cysts diagnosed and treated?

Suprasellar cysts, also known as suprasellar pool cysts and suprasellar pool arachnoid cysts, are arachnoid cysts that originate from the suprasellar pool. As the cyst grows upward and compresses the hypothalamus, it often causes developmental delay and involuntary head shaking. As the cyst grows, the cyst protrudes upward into the third ventricle, compressing or blocking the interventricular foramen and causing hydrocephalus. It is often misdiagnosed as hydrocephalus and a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt is performed. After surgery, the cyst grows rapidly and the condition worsens. With the popularity of magnetic resonance, the diagnosis of suprasellar cysts is not difficult. For treatment, in the past, craniotomy was used to remove the cyst, and the postoperative patients had many complications, often coma, persistent hyperthermia, urinary collapse, electrolyte disturbance, etc., and the serious cases were life-threatening, and this surgical technique was gradually eliminated. With the promotion of neuroendoscopic technology, endoscopic partial resection of cyst wall + cyst-ventriculostomy was used to obtain satisfactory results with few complications, and endoscopic surgery became the main treatment method for suprasellar cysts.
