What if I get pregnant after a hysterosalpingogram?

Hysterosalpingography has a therapeutic effect. The conception rate within 1 year is 76% for those who have a clear tube on hysterosalpingography, which is 4 times higher than those who do not have HSG. However, it is best to use contraception for three months after the hysterosalpingogram to minimize the possible effects of X-ray exposure on the eggs. Despite our repeated instructions to each patient who undergoes a hysterosalpingogram to use contraception for three months, some couples still fail to use contraception for three months and some become pregnant the same month or the second month after the hysterosalpingogram. They often come to us for consultation. Although x-ray irradiation may have an effect on the egg, it has been observed clinically that there is no increased risk of fetal abnormalities in women who become pregnant in the month following the imaging. I often advise them to have the fetus, but they must undergo routine prenatal checkups so that any abnormalities can be dealt with promptly and a healthy baby can be born when the fetus is normal. I have been working at the provincial maternity home for more than 10 years and I have not seen or heard of any cases of abnormal babies being born after hysterosalpingogram pregnancy. It is still routine to use contraception for three months after the hysterosalpingogram.
