Vaginal douching is required daily after radiotherapy for cervical cancer and should be continued for a period of time. During radiotherapy for cervical cancer, the tumor tissues become necrotic and fall off after radiation, resulting in increased vaginal excretion. At the same time, mucosal congestion, edema and increased vaginal secretion may occur in the vagina after radiation. After radiotherapy, most patients’ abnormal vaginal discharge symptoms can be significantly reduced or disappeared, so there is no need for long-term vaginal douching after radiotherapy for cervical cancer, most of them can be douched for 3-6 months. During and after radiotherapy, vaginal dilators should be used consistently to avoid vaginal adhesions. If vaginal douching and dilatation are not performed after radiotherapy, vaginal atresia may result.
