Adrenal gland is one of the endocrine organs of human body, which secretes some hormones related to human metabolism and internal environment, such as salt corticosteroids and glucocorticoids. With the development of medical technology and the improvement of people’s self-awareness, it is possible to find nodules or tumors in the adrenal glands during medical checkups, how should we seek medical consultation at this time? We should know that adrenal tumors can be broadly classified into functional and non-functional tumors, benign and malignant tumors. The final diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors depends on pathology. Clinically, based on symptoms, imaging examinations (mainly CT plain + enhancement, MRI etc. if necessary), and tumor growth rate, there can only be an indeterminate diagnostic tendency, and not a definite diagnosis. To distinguish whether adrenal tumor is functional or not, a series of examinations are needed: such as blood epinephrine, norepinephrine, electrolytes, etc. (these examinations can be performed in endocrinology department). Generally, non-functional adenoma, i.e. no secretory function, normal hormone level, in <3cm, can be handled temporarily, but needs regular review and follow-up in 3-6 months, if the nodule increases significantly, surgery is needed to exclude malignant tumor possible. If it is a functional tumor, i.e. a tumor that will secrete some extra hormones causing patients to have symptoms, such as primary aldosteronism, patients will have hypertension, hypokalemia, and usually show some clinical symptoms such as headache, weakness of limbs, twitching, numbness, etc.; and pheochromocytoma, which often causes patients to have high blood pressure, such high blood pressure is difficult to be relieved by drugs and easy to fluctuate. "Hypertension, palpitations and excessive sweating are the most common symptoms of patients; Cushing's syndrome: there are signs of centripetal obesity, polycythemia vera, purple skin lines, hypertension, bone pressure pain or vertebral deformation, etc. Of course, these are common manifestations of functional adrenal tumors, and abnormalities of hormone levels can be found through blood and urine tests. Therefore, if adrenal nodules or tumors are found, as long as abnormal hormone secretion is detected and confirmed by laboratory tests, regardless of the size of the adrenal mass and whether it is malignant or not, surgery should be performed as soon as possible to reduce the damage caused by excessive hormone secretion to the human body.
