How soon to go to work after thyroid surgery

After thyroid surgery, you are usually able to resume normal work after 7-10 days. There are various types of thyroid disorders, including benign thyroid nodules, thyroid cysts and thyroid adenomas, as well as malignant thyroid cancer. Some benign thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer require surgical treatment. The time to return to work after their surgery is related to the extent of the damage done during the surgery, the speed of the patient’s recovery, and postoperative complications. If the scope of surgery is small and the damage is mild, the recovery is smooth and the patient can generally return to work about 1 week after surgery. If the scope of surgery is larger and the degree of injury is heavy, it will take about 10 days to resume normal work. In addition, patients should pay attention to rest and avoid straining after surgery, and change medication regularly to prevent infection. If there is difficulty in breathing and other uncomfortable symptoms should be promptly addressed by a doctor.
