At the current medical level appendicitis is generally not recommended to open the abdomen, and the main surgical method is still laparoscopic appendectomy. Currently, laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure with fast recovery and minimal damage, and is the recommended procedure. Open appendectomy is a more traditional means of treating appendicitis and is not very recommended at present. Open appendectomy of the appendix is only considered for patients with a history of repeated surgical procedures and appendiceal inflammation considering the formation of peri-abscesses, and for elderly and frail patients who cannot tolerate pneumoperitoneum. Laparoscopic surgery is relatively expensive because of the high pulmonary requirements and the need to establish a pneumoperitoneum, as well as general anesthesia. In contrast, open appendectomy is economical, but relatively more damaging and slower to recover.
