Which pneumothorax patients need surgery?

Pneumothorax does not necessarily require surgical treatment. For some young patients, if the spontaneous pneumothorax is less than 30% and there are no symptoms, it can be treated without treatment and some of them can be absorbed by themselves with more rest. If the pneumothorax is greater than 50%, it should be treated surgically, and thoracoscopic surgery can be used. In general, if you have heart and lung disease and your own symptoms are heavy, you should consider surgery even if you have only a few percent of lung compression, and it is recommended to do a chest X-ray to clarify. Which patients with pneumothorax need surgery? Minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery is needed to cure the following patients: 1, a large number of pneumothorax with significant pulmonary compression; 2, patients with recurrent pneumothorax; 3, repeated chest punctures that do not drain the gas; 4, lung CT examination found obvious pulmonary blisters; 5, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema with multiple pulmonary blisters; 6, patients with persistent air leakage or pulmonary atelectasis after closed chest drainage need to be surgically removed or repaired for pulmonary air leakage to be cured. Therefore, patients with the above conditions should go to the thoracic surgery department as soon as possible to avoid delays in treatment. It should also be noted that if the lung function of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or emphysema pneumothorax is very poor, the risk of surgery will be very high, depending on the specific circumstances of the patient to decide whether surgery can be performed!
