What is a hepatic caudate lobe cyst?

The liver is divided into eight segments, and the caudate lobe of the liver belongs to the S1 segment. A caudate lobe cyst is a cyst that grows on the S1 segment of the liver. Liver cysts are a common benign lesion of the liver, with congenital cysts being the most common. Depending on the size of the lesion, clinical manifestations vary from patient to patient. Smaller lesions are generally asymptomatic, while larger lesions may present with right abdominal discomfort, abdominal distention, and dull pain in the abdomen. If there is co-infection, fever and pain may also occur. If the lesions are small, treatment is generally not needed, as long as regular review and follow-up is done. If the lesion is large with symptoms of compression, then surgery is recommended.
