According to relevant statistics, the incidence of ocular trauma in children in China accounts for 15-27% of all traumatic injuries. Common ocular symptoms include corneal/scleral penetrating injury, traumatic pupil dilatation, anterior chamber hemorrhage, cataract, vitreous hemorrhage, intraocular foreign body, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, retinal detachment, endophthalmitis, etc., which are often combined with intraocular infection to form septic endophthalmitis. The blindness rate of all types of trauma is as high as 70%, and if not rescued in time, it often leads to different degrees of vision loss, eye atrophy, and even eye removal. In the comparison of ocular trauma in children and adults, children are mostly injured during play. Perforation injuries accounted for 66.7%. This compares with 47.5% for adults. The prognosis of children’s vision is much lower than that of adults, which indicates that the prognosis of ocular trauma is more serious. Among children with ocular trauma, boys account for 71.7%, which is much higher than girls, indicating that boys are naughty and active and more prone to accidents. The common causes of ocular trauma in children nowadays are: simulated toy guns, discarded syringes, explosive injuries (mainly fireworks and firecrackers), knives, scissors, pencils and other sharp objects. The less perforation, the better the healing effect. Therefore, we hope that society, schools, teachers, parents and medical workers will work together to pay attention to our next generation and strengthen safety education for children. Ban fireworks and explosive firecrackers, manage flammable items and domestic pets. Prevent the occurrence of eye trauma in children, so that every child can have a pair of bright eyes.
