I. Initial consultation
The patient, Mr. Wang, had frequent diarrhea for 1 month, with a self-test temperature of 37.2℃, dry mouth, bitter mouth, dry cough, and worse at night, diarrhea 3-5 times a day, and the diarrhea worsened when the diet was slightly cold. The patient’s history shows that as a child, he was fond of cold and raw foods, especially frozen pears and persimmons in winter in the north, and occasionally he would have diarrhea, and his feet were always cold.
II. Treatment history
In view of the patient’s taste for cold and raw food, and the fact that the liver often has excess and the spleen often has deficiency during his early childhood, the patient’s spleen yang was injured by his uncontrolled diet, and the extensive use of antibiotics due to the wind and cold, which damaged the mucous membrane of the digestive tract and led to the imbalance of the intestinal flora. On the second day of medication, the patient was given moxibustion with ginger, and the acupoints chosen were Shen Que, Guan Yuan, Zhong Gua and Tian Shu, each with three strokes of moxibustion, followed by moxibustion of the Foot San Li and Yong Quan points with rotary moxibustion.
III. Treatment effect
The diarrhea decreased to about 2 times a day on the 2nd day of oral administration of Sishenwan, and the feet basically became warm on the 4th day of oral administration, with diarrhea 1-2 times a day and stools basically formed, and the stools were formed once a day on the 5th day of oral administration. 1 week later, the patient reported occasional sticky toilet, and suggested to use moxibustion box at home to moxibustion abdominal acupuncture points.
IV. Notes
I am glad that the patient’s symptoms have improved after treatment, but I still remind the patient to pay more attention to keeping warm in the future, and to increase and decrease clothing when the weather changes, paying special attention to keeping the lower extremities warm. If abdominal pain or sticky stools appear in the future, seek medical attention promptly. Avoid cold and raw foods, cooked vegetables and fruits. If time allows, you can do aerobic exercise. Try to work and rest regularly, don’t overeat and don’t stay up late. In addition, in some patients with spleen-yang deficiency diarrhea, the whole family may suffer from the same condition. It is important to study the dietary habits of the family and change them if necessary.
V. Personal insight
Chinese medicine believes that the kidney is the root of the innate nature and the spleen is the root of the acquired nature, so the strength of the body is closely related to the structure of the acquired diet, and our diet is mostly metabolized by the spleen, so cultivating good eating habits is the foundation of health. Therefore, it is important to remind people to cultivate good eating habits, which is the most important thing to regulate the body. Modern people have superior living conditions and rich material choices, sometimes because of social entertainment leads to dietary indiscipline, or young people in order to lose weight intentionally diet not to eat, and over time hurt the spleen and stomach, the spleen and stomach damage after eating food will not be metabolized and digested and absorbed, will produce spleen Yang deficiency type diarrhea.
