Five Ling San from the “Treatise on Typhoid Fever”, the original book will be Zelig, Poria, Poria, Atractylodes, cinnamon branch pounded into a loose, white drink and serve a square inch dagger, three times a day, drink more warm water, sweat out, as the law will rest. Modern more as a bulk to swallow, each serving 3 to 6 grams, or as a decoction of soup water. Children can control the dose according to their weight and condition, but generally should not be too light. Professor Shi Enjun, a famous doctor in Guizhou, often uses this formula for treating autumn diarrhea in children (abbreviated as autumn leakage). Autumn diarrhea is the most common diarrhea in children in autumn and winter, caused by rotavirus infection, commonly found in infants and young children aged 6 to 24 months, with clinical manifestations of “three more” (i.e. more stools, more water, more times), and is a self-limiting disease. However, if not treated in time, dehydration and acidosis often occur, and there is no special treatment in Western medicine. In Chinese medicine, it is believed that children are often deficient in spleen and kidney, so they are most susceptible to dampness, which can cause diarrhea due to dysfunction of the spleen and stomach. Su Wen – Yin and Yang should be like the great theory of the chapter cloud: “wet win is moistened and drainage”, “difficult to Jing” said: “wet more into five drainage”, are straightforward cause of the disease. However, Shi believes that children’s spleen and stomach are easily trapped by cold and dampness in autumn and winter, so autumn diarrhea is caused by children’s spleen and kidney deficiency and cold and dampness invasion, resulting in kidney deficiency to warm the spleen, resulting in irregular spleen movement and diarrhea. Because Wu Ling San can warm the kidneys and strengthen the spleen, transform the qi and facilitate the flow of water, it seems to be practical to treat this disease. The formula is based on Zeligia to permeate dampness and promote water, while Poria and Poria help to promote dampness, and then with Atractylodes to strengthen the spleen, it can better play the role of transporting water and dampness; Gui Zhi is a medicine to promote Yang Qi and help the whole body to promote water. However, in clinical use, Shi often supplemented this formula with Pueraria Mirifica to promote the clearing and lowering of turbidity, encouraging the clearing of the spleen and stomach to move upward, along with Che Qian Zi to benefit the urine and actual stool. Also often according to the physiological characteristics of children’s spleen and kidney deficiency and the “Compendium of Materia Medica” cloud it can “cure kidney drainage” of the record, the addition of bone marrow a medicine, the therapeutic effect has been enhanced. Shi believes that Wu Ling San is not only effective in treating autumnal diarrhea, but can also be effective in treating diarrhea in all seasons by adding and subtracting with the evidence. For example, if vomiting is obvious, add patchouli, bamboo rhizome; high fever and thirst, add Zhi Mu, papaya; foul-smelling stools, add hawthorn, grain buds; cold limbs, add Pieces of Pill, Guan Gui, etc. According to Shih, Wu Ling San is effective in treating autumnal discharge in children, and can be used as a specific remedy. Case example: Yao, male, 10 months old, was first seen on December 13, 2002. 20 days ago, he visited several hospitals with watery diarrhea and was diagnosed as “autumn diarrhea”, and was given Shuanghuanglian granules, Similac, and lactase orally, and intravenous rehydration, but never cured. The diagnosis: diarrhea with watery stools up to 10-15 times a day, with high volume, fatigue, vomiting and abdominal distension, light tongue with white fur and light red fingerprints. This is a case of internal deficiency of the spleen and kidney, external cold and dampness, and dampness trapping the spleen, resulting in diarrhea. Prescription: 12 grams of zedoary, 10 grams of poria, 10 grams of poria, 10 grams of atractylodes, 3 grams of cinnamon stick, 6 grams of bone marrow, 6 grams of psyllium (decoction), 10 grams of kudzu, 6 grams of patchouli, 6 grams of mullein (later), 6 grams of sand (later), 3 grams of licorice, taken frequently with water. After two doses, the diarrhea stopped, the vomiting stopped, the spirit improved, and the patient liked to eat, and the disease was cured.
