The presence of pulsating tinnitus, but not when the neck is pressed, is most often considered to be tinnitus of venous origin. This symptom can be caused by jugular vein bullae, high jugular vein bullae, sigmoid sinus diverticulae, and is more common in the right ear. It is usually associated with hearing loss and prompt medical examination is recommended to clarify the cause.
