Liver cancer is a malignant tumor of the liver, and there are primary liver cancer and metastatic liver cancer. Then what is primary liver cancer? The 2011 edition of the “Diagnostic and Treatment Standards for Primary Liver Cancer” issued by the Ministry of Health defines as follows: “Primary liver cancer mainly includes different pathological types such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and mixed hepatocellular carcinoma-intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, among which HCC accounts for more than 90%, so “liver cancer “is mainly referred to as HCC”. Primary liver cancer refers to malignant tumors that grow in the liver (excluding outside the liver) and originate from hepatocytes and bile duct cells, that is to say, malignant tumors that “have their roots in the liver”, not tumors from other parts of the body that “migrate” to the liver. The liver is an important organ of the human body and is responsible for many functions of the human body. What people eat needs to be transformed and processed in the liver, toxins need to be removed in the liver, bile is produced by the liver, many drugs are excreted by the liver, and albumin can only be synthesized by the liver, so the liver is rich in nutrients and very active cells. Once liver cancer is formed, it grows rapidly, causes serious damage and is life-threatening, so liver cancer is known as the “king of cancers”. Before 1990s, once the diagnosis of liver cancer was confirmed, most patients did not live for half a year, and more often died in one or two months. However, after the application of modern medical technology for comprehensive and standardized treatment, the one-year survival rate reaches more than 70% and the five-year survival rate is about 50%, so the treatment technology has made substantial and leap-forward progress. The key is early detection, early diagnosis, early treatment, standardized treatment and comprehensive treatment. We believe that with the continuous progress and improvement of medical technology, the treatment effect will be further improved, and we will eventually overcome primary liver cancer, which is a serious disease that endangers human health.
