What should be done when an ankle sprain occurs?

Immediately after an ankle sprain, it should be managed using the RICE approach before seeking medical attention. That is.
R (rest): rest, braking the injured joint, using an assistive device such as a crutch or applying a brace to immobilise it.
I (ice): ice packs, which can be applied 24-72 hours after the injury to reduce swelling and pain, for 15-20 minutes each time, at 2-3 hour intervals.
C (compression): compression bandage, can apply elastic bandage to reduce swelling, can use plaster, brace, etc. to protect the joint.
E (elevation): elevate the injured ankle above the heart to help reduce swelling.
After simple treatment at the scene it is recommended to see a foot and ankle sports trauma specialist to avoid delay.
