Although there are many things that children do not say, or do not say properly, and some words cannot be taken seriously, I would like to remind parents from the perspective of an ophthalmologist, some abnormal manifestations or children’s narrative is meaningful, may be the only clue to timely detection of children’s eye disease, sometimes repeatedly missed, may be lost otherwise very valuable treatment time. For example, a child’s tendency to look at things very close, especially television, may indicate poor vision. Because poor vision is not uncomfortable, children tend to think that the world is inherently unclear, and will not actively tell adults. Always come closer to see, sometimes criticized by parents, which can really wrong the child, should go to the eye as soon as possible to check whether there are abnormalities. For example, squinting, tilting the head, turning the face, lowering the head, tilting the head and other actions often indicate that the child’s vision is poor or has strabismus. Because of these movements, the child is diagnosed with “squinting neck”, but there are two types of squinting neck, one is a real problem with the neck and the other is strabismus, which must be clearly distinguished before treatment. Some children with amblyopia in one eye are often found to be in their teens or older, making treatment difficult and ineffective, often leading to lifelong amblyopia in one eye, which is a great pity. Since the child has normal vision in the other eye, he or she often does not show any signs of discomfort, a condition that requires taking the child for a checkup to discover. There are many cases because they brought their children to get glasses and inadvertently discovered amblyopia in one eye. Some parents do not believe that their children have amblyopia no matter what, and insist that their children have always been normal. Then they recall that the child said that one eye had bad vision, and the parents did not care, thinking that the parents were normal, so the child would not have a problem, and they never sought medical attention. Therefore, it is important to treat the child’s abnormal performance and reaction carefully, and to pay attention to it is to pay attention to the child’s eyes.
