Pleural mesothelioma cannot be cured by itself, and the main treatment methods at present include surgical resection treatment, radiotherapy, and chemical-drug combination treatment. 1. Surgical treatment: surgical treatment mainly involves removal of the mass, and the treatment effect is achieved through extrapleural pneumonectomy to remove the pleura, lung and clear the nodules, and radiotherapy is required after the operation. Though pleurectomy to remove the tumor tissues compressing the lungs can not achieve the curative effect, it can relieve the symptoms such as pulmonary atelectasis. 2. Radiotherapy: malignant pleural mesothelioma grows diffusely locally and is still prone to recurrence after surgical treatment. The cells of malignant pleural mesothelioma are very sensitive to radiation, but the target area of radiation therapy is large, where there are vital organs such as heart and lungs, so the radiation therapy is very limited, and it can only be used to relieve pain. 3. Chemotherapy: often combined with surgical treatment, currently the commonly used programs include pemetrexed combined with platinum, gemcitabine combined with cisplatin. Chemotherapy can effectively kill tumor cells in the body and improve the survival rate of patients. Patients should go to the hospital immediately when they feel unwell.
