What is gout? Gouty arthritis, often referred to as “gout”, is caused by hyperuricemia, when blood uric acid is chronically elevated (fasting blood uric acid levels >416.5μmol/L for men or >357μmol/L for women on two different days), and uric acid salts are deposited in the tissues, especially in the joints of the toes, heels, ankles, knees and elbows. This can cause “gout” if it causes an inflammation-like reaction in joints such as the knee and elbow. If uric acid is deposited in these areas for a long time, it may lead to joint deformity or even loss of function. If uric acid is deposited in the kidneys, it may lead to abnormal kidney function, and if it is deposited in the blood vessels and stimulates the blood vessel walls, it may aggravate hypertension and coronary heart disease! How is hyperuricemia caused? Elevated plasma urate concentration is caused by both: excessive absorption and production of purines and abnormal breakdown and excretion of uric acid. Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism, so if too much purine is consumed or if metabolism is disturbed, it can lead to elevated blood uric acid, so drinking alcohol and eating high purine foods can cause elevated uric acid and lead to gout. It has also been shown that hyperuricemia is related to genetic factors and obesity, so people with family history should pay more attention to diet and weight control. What should I do if I have gout? The most important thing is to control the diet and drink alcohol carefully, eat less high purine food, drink more water (more than 2000ml per day), maintain a reasonable weight, avoid overeating, alcoholism, cold and damp, excessive fatigue and mental stress. When you have a gout attack with joint pain, pay attention to bed rest, elevate the affected limb, and wear comfortable shoes and socks when you go out to avoid damage to the joint. For the first time, or if the condition is serious, it is recommended to go to the hospital first and take medication under the guidance of the doctor if necessary to avoid delaying the condition. What to eat for gout? In addition to moxibustion health care, but also pay attention to dietary regimen, pay attention to minimize the consumption of high purine food such as bean sprouts, mushrooms, purple cabbage, animal offal, seafood, etc., but also less alcohol, especially beer, limit protein and fat intake, drink more water. Dendrobium is slightly cold, belongs to the lung, stomach, heart and kidney, has the effect of strengthening the spleen and nourishing the stomach, nourishing the Yin and producing fluid, moistening the lung and benefiting the kidney, modern pharmacological research also shows that dendrobium has the effect of enhancing the immunity of the body, reducing fever and pain, lowering blood lipids and lowering blood sugar, etc. Gout patients can take fresh strips of dendrobium, 15 grams each time, cooked with water in a soybean milk machine, or dried leaves of dendrobium can be used instead of tea to make tea to drink, which may achieve the effect of gout health care.
