“Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Ms. Li just retired 5 months, because the original work is busy, home things rarely have time to clean, often hired a part-time worker to clean, now finally have time, she wants to clean up the home themselves. And all of a sudden idle, at home is still a bit uncomfortable, and began to do a thorough cleaning of the home. Every day from the moment she wakes up in the morning, she starts to get busy, preparing breakfast for her family, and after her family goes to work, she starts to brush the pots and pans and wash the dishes. Then I cleaned every room, mopped the floor, scrubbed the dining table, desk, windowsill and glass, etc. Then I went to the grocery store to buy food. Then go to the grocery store to buy groceries. When other people are not at home, they simply make a little meal for themselves, and after a break to watch some TV, they start to wash the clothes changed by the family. Ms. Li loves cleanliness, suspected that the washing machine is not clean, each piece of clothing to be washed by hand first, rubbing clothes hate to rub off a piece of skin on the hands. The clothes are washed, look at the TV, almost to start making dinner again. One does not fall, every day. Suddenly, one day, Ms. Li felt a little numb fingers began to numb, at first did not care, but it seems that the symptoms are becoming more and more obvious, and only the first three fingers numb, the last few days, and even sleep at night will wake up numb. Ms. Li was scared and rushed to the hospital to see her doctor, who asked her to do an electromyography examination and found that she was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. So, what is carpal tunnel syndrome? There is an underlying natural duct in our wrist called the carpal tunnel. The palmar side of the carpal tunnel is made up of the transverse carpal ligament and the back side is made up of the carpal bone. This narrow canal contains nine flexor tendons and the median nerve. Under normal circumstances, there is a certain volume in the carpal tunnel and the flexor tendons can slide freely within the carpal tunnel without obstructing the median nerve. However, chronic strain, trauma to the wrist, and occupancy of the carpal tunnel can lead to relative narrowing of the carpal tunnel and compression of the median nerve, resulting in carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is due to the decrease of volume or increase of pressure in the carpal tunnel, so that the median nerve that travels in it is compressed in the tunnel, and numbness and burning pain in the radial half of the thumb, index finger, middle finger and ring finger appear, and the pain sometimes radiates to the forearm, elbow and even the shoulder. Dyskinesia is a late symptom and may include atrophy of the masseter muscle, inflexible finger movements and grip weakness. Carpal tunnel syndrome mainly occurs in various personnel who often operate with wrist force, such as carpenters, milkmaids, chefs, dishwashers, calligraphers, painters, painters, music conductors, fiddle (including piano, huqin, etc.) players, sculptors and those who often operate keyboards or mice, etc. Women are more often than men, and male patients are mostly related to the occupation they are engaged in. About 90 of the women are menopausal women, and in our country most of the women in that age group are housewives who take on the main household chores, which are often caused by the flexion of the wrist due to repeated excessive use of the hands over a long period of time. Therefore, the majorettes should have enough knowledge about this disease in order to prevent it well. Nowadays, more and more young people are also starting to develop this symptom. Because with the popularity of computers, more and more people use computers for a long time every day, hand surgery experts believe that the frequent repeated mechanical clicking of the mouse will cause the fingers and associated muscles, nerves and tendons to be in a state of non-intermittent fatigue, leading to damage or compression of tendons and nerves in the carpal tunnel, resulting in nerve conduction being blocked, thus causing the sensation and movement of the fingers to become impaired. Therefore, this condition is also known as “mouse hand”. Therefore, to reduce and prevent the occurrence of this disease, it is necessary to prevent various injuries to the wrist and overexertion. In doing housework requires frequent wrist exertion, it is best to take a break in the middle of the activity, so that the hand muscles and tension in the body and mind to relax. Or often soak the wrist in hot water, as well as topical application of drugs to activate blood circulation and repair strain, so that the hand muscles are completely relaxed. Once it develops, it should be treated promptly and thoroughly to prevent recurrence. The treatment of mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome is mainly conservative, and the wrist can be kept in a neutral position with a wrist brace to reduce the pressure in the carpal tunnel. Acupuncture treatment is also considered to reduce symptoms. In severe cases of carpal tunnel syndrome or in patients where conservative treatment has failed, surgical treatment may be considered. Of course, when you have the above symptoms and need treatment, it is best to go to the hospital first and ask your doctor to make a correct diagnosis and propose a reasonable treatment plan, rather than dealing with it blindly by yourself.
