If acne is severe, with cysts and abscesses predominating, or if acne is not properly cared for during the inflammatory phase of acne, such as frequent exclusion of pimples, scarring will result. Some are like ice chisels, some are like craters, and some are like orange peel, which greatly affects aesthetics and human interaction. Laser resurfacing is the gold standard for the treatment of acne scarring, however, due to the darker skin tone of Asians, the overall resurfacing will result in severe hyperpigmentation for a long period of time. Therefore, with the introduction of fractional lasers, this challenge has been solved. The fractional laser emits a hair-thin laser beam, leaving normal skin between the beams. It maintains the high efficiency of laser grinding while solving the problem of long healing time and side effects after surgery. What makes fractional laser different from laser grinding or microdermabrasion: Fractional laser does not thin the good skin to be flush with the skin at the bottom of the pit. Rather, it stimulates the active expression of stem cells in the deep dermis (including mesenchymal stem cells in the dermis, stem cells in the hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands and other appendages) to promote skin renewal. Fibroblasts in the dermis are activated to synthesize collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and other matrix components in large quantities, so after laser treatment, the skin continues to regenerate and gradually repairs the original depressed scar. Usually once every 3-6 months at an interval of about 2-5 times, the treatment effect is remarkable. Even the most severe scars can improve by more than 50%. Less severe acne scars can even be negligible. In order to compare the efficacy of fractional laser on severe acne scars, we recruited volunteers to have half of the face treated and the other side of the face left untreated as its own control. The photos show that the effect of fractional laser treatment on acne scars is very obvious. The full fractional laser treatment takes about 15 minutes.
