What signs indicate osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is common in middle-aged and elderly people, and is more common in women. About 25% of postmenopausal women suffer from osteoporosis. The onset of osteoporosis is related to genetics, nutritional factors, lack of sex hormones, and reduced outdoor exercise; some diseases such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease can also lead to osteoporosis; some drugs such as glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, heparin, anticancer drugs, and aluminum-containing antacids can also trigger osteoporosis. Early detection and timely treatment and change of unhealthy lifestyle can avoid or reduce the serious consequences of osteoporosis. If you have the following symptoms, you should go to the hospital for examination to see if you have osteoporosis: 1. When measuring your height, you find that your stature has become shorter, such as several centimeters shorter than when you were younger. 2. Gradually develop hunchback or thoracic deformity. 3. Gradually develop back pain or generalized bone pain, accompanied by leg cramps. 4.Walking is unstable and must be careful; sometimes fractures can occur with slight external force or even coughing. 5. General weakness and decrease in muscle strength. 6.Decreased respiratory function, chest tightness, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing may occur due to thoracic deformity. 7. Vertebral compression fracture is found during X-ray examination. If the diagnosis of osteoporosis is confirmed, medication should be administered under the guidance of a doctor, and calcium and vitamin D should be supplemented appropriately, and lifestyle should be adjusted to maintain a balanced diet, choose calcium-rich foods, exercise outdoors appropriately, do not drink alcohol, do not smoke, and do not drink too much coffee and strong tea.
