What to look for in a visit for constipation

Constipation is one of the most common diseases in babies, and because of its high incidence, it often causes problems for many parents, and how to diagnose and treat it is often confusing for many parents. This article briefly introduces constipation to guide parents in the diagnosis and treatment. First of all, we need to understand the diagnostic criteria of constipation, because there are differences in the bowel movements of children of different ages, therefore, before diagnosing constipation, we need to know the following prerequisites: 1, whether there are less than 2 bowel movements per week; 2, whether there is at least 1 bowel incontinence per week after they can control the bowel movements; 3, there has been bowel retention before; 4, there has been pain during bowel movements or difficult bowel movements; 5, there are bowel masses in the rectum 6. Large fecal masses that block the toilet. The next step is to briefly introduce the diagnostic criteria for different age groups: if your baby is younger than 4 years old, the diagnosis can be made if 2 of the above prerequisites are present and have lasted for more than 1 month. If your baby is older than 4 years old, the diagnosis is made by meeting at least 2 of the prerequisite diagnoses, lasting for more than 2 months, and having weekly episodes. Once constipation is diagnosed, treatment is required, and the first choice at the beginning of treatment is dietary modification and bowel training. Diet adjustment: Diet has a great influence on bowel movement. First of all, you need to know if your baby’s daily water intake is too low, as too little water can lead to dry stools and constipation. If the amount of water is OK, then we also need to understand the baby’s daily diet structure. Babies who eat less vegetables are prone to constipation, and if it is a problem with the diet structure, we can treat the constipation of the child by letting the child eat more vegetables and adjusting the diet. Defecation training: It takes some time for babies to establish normal defecation. If you find that your baby’s stool is not dry and he/she has no regular defecation habit before, fixed-point and regular defecation training is an important means to solve constipation, sitting on the potty for 5-10 minutes every morning and using the correct defecation method is important to establish normal regular defecation. If the above methods still do not improve, you can choose to stimulate the anus through the method of defecation, such as anal finger diagnosis, suppositories or bowel cleansing, etc. If the baby constipation is still not significantly improved, you can choose the appropriate drug treatment, preferably less dependent, less toxic side effects of drugs, mainly for bulking agents, osmotic laxatives and micro-ecological preparations, including the four mill soup, fuzong, Jin Shuangqi and other drugs. If you need to adjust the medication, you need to go to the pediatric department of the regular hospital, do not use drugs indiscriminately, so as not to cause serious consequences. If your baby’s constipation does not improve with medication, then you need to go to the pediatric surgery clinic, because there is a possibility of abnormal intestinal development. Before coming to the pediatric surgery clinic, parents can keep their baby’s bowel movement once a day with a corker to reduce the accumulation of stool in the intestine to save hospital time and reduce complications caused by constipation, such as colitis and small bowel colitis.
