Peripheral facial palsy may start with pain in the lower clavicle or behind the ear. The main symptom is paralysis of facial expression muscles on one side, loss of frontal lines, inability to frown, inability to close the eye fissure or incomplete closure, when trying to close the eye, the eye on the paralyzed side turns upward and outward, revealing the white sclera. The nasolabial fissure on the sick side becomes shallow, the corners of the mouth droop, and the corners of the mouth are crooked to the healthy side when the teeth are exposed; the air leaks when puffing or whistling due to paralysis of the orbicularis oris muscle, and food is retained between the teeth and cheeks on the sick side due to paralysis of the buccal muscle. Acupuncture with massage can improve local blood circulation, reduce facial nerve edema and promote functional recovery, so it is a more ideal method for treating peripheral facial palsy. We divide facial palsy into three stages. 1. Developmental stage: within 1-7 days after onset; 2. Resting stage: 7-20 days after onset; 3. Recovery stage: after 20 days after onset. There are many neurologists who believe that the best period for acupuncture treatment of facial paralysis lies in the resting phase. However, we conclude from clinical and many TCM clinical reports that the best time to treat peripheral facial palsy with acupuncture with and tui na is during the developmental phase. When peripheral facial palsy is treated in the developmental stage, those with mild disease can be completely cured within a week, and none of the cases are aggravated. For the developmental stage of peripheral facial palsy, we use local multi-needle shallow and flat stabbing on the affected side, not deep stabbing, penetrating acupuncture points and vigorous lifting and twisting, and electroacupuncture with sparse and dense waves; tui-na is based on gentle one-finger Zen pushing. In the resting period, the stimulation is increased, deep stabbing, penetrating stabbing, and lifting and twisting, medium stimulation, but not too many penetrating points, and electroacupuncture using low frequency continuous wave and sparse wave alternately. In the recovery period, under the patient’s tolerance, the penetration points are the main points, and electroacupuncture is mainly high-frequency continuous wave, alternating with low-frequency continuous wave; in the development period, the use of local multi-needle shallow stabbing, flat stabbing and electroacupuncture with and gentle one-finger Zen pushing method can make the main branches of the affected face are excited without damaging the nerves, enhance the contraction of muscle fibers, strengthen blood circulation, improve the transmission of nerve impulses by absorbing inflammatory exudates, and promote The nerve fibers are regenerated so that the nerve function governing muscle contraction is restored. Traditional medicine believes that acupuncture points on the Yang Ming and Shao Yang meridians of the hand and foot, and the Sun meridian points of the hand and foot can unblock qi and blood and warm the meridians. It promotes blood circulation. The effect of peripheral facial palsy treatment depends on the timing of treatment and the differences in the severity of the patient’s condition, physical constitution and age. Therefore, peripheral facial palsy should be treated as soon as possible after diagnosis.
