As the number of participating countries and organizations grew steadily year by year, the impact of World Osteoporosis Day grew, and in 1998 the World Health Organization (WHO) became involved and took on a very important role as co-sponsor, and World Osteoporosis Day was rescheduled for October 20 each year. The World Health Organization and the International Osteoporosis Foundation also publish newsletters from time to time to share information and experiences of osteoporosis organizations in member countries, making World Osteoporosis Day an important global event in the world. The theme of World Osteoporosis Day in 1998 was “Government Action” (to promote to the government and draw its attention and support to the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis; In 1999, the theme of World Osteoporosis Day was “Early Diagnosis”; from 2000 to 2004, in order to make the theme of World Osteoporosis Day closely related to the members of the osteoporosis family, the theme of four years of Osteoporosis Day activities was “Invest in your bones”; however, the subtitle of the four years was different. “; however, the subtitle varied from year to year. Osteoporosis is a common and frequent disease among middle-aged and elderly people, ranking among the top five diseases of middle-aged and elderly people. It seriously endangers the health of the elderly and has become one of the serious social problems of wide concern in the world today. It is necessary to further strengthen the publicity and education of osteoporosis to make the whole society aware of the prevalence and danger of osteoporosis, so that the majority of osteoporosis patients can be detected early and diagnosed early in order to get timely treatment and minimize the danger of osteoporosis to middle-aged and elderly people. In 2000, the Ministry of Health officially joined the World Decade of Bone and Joint Health (2002-2011) initiative. The goal of this campaign is to improve the health of people suffering from musculoskeletal disorders worldwide and to further improve the quality of life of people. The Osteoporosis Committee of the Chinese Gerontological Society has been actively participating and supporting this campaign since 1997. Every year, the Department of Disease Control of the Ministry of Health issues a document hoping that more people will participate in osteoporosis awareness and prevention activities.
