Infantile acne mostly occurs in newborns and can appear as isolated papules or pustules on the face, mainly due to excess androgens from the mother. Neonatal acne can be treated with topical erythromycin ointment or Pepto Bismol cream, which is an anti-inflammatory treatment that will generally subside on its own within a month or so and has little effect on newborns. Eczema is a relatively common skin disease that occurs on the face, generally a symmetrical distribution of patchy rash, there can be papules, some patients can appear vesicles, oozing, fusion into a patch, the child has itching, treatment can be topical application of zinc oxide cream, severe patients can also be topical application of tacrolimus cream.
